We're living history!

Since its founding 1689 it has been in every major conflict Britain been involved in, from the fields of Blenheim (1704), Saratoga (1777) to being the only Welsh regiment to land on D-Day (1944). However, it is mostly remembered for its action in 1879 when 3,000 Zulus attacked a small missionary post garrisoned by a company of the 2/24th Foot (300 men) where they won seven Victorian Crosses (British Medal of Honor) for their distinguished defense at Rorke's Drift, the most of any other regiments in a single action.
Since receiving permission by the Royal Regiment of Wales in 1995 to establish a living history organization of the 24th, we have continued to strive to authentically portray these men with honor and respect without losing the enjoyment of bringing to life a common soldier of the 24th Regiment of Foot. Since receiving permission by the Royal Regiment of Wales in 1995 to establish a living history organization of the 24th, we have continued to strive to authentically portray these men with honor and respect without losing the enjoyment of bringing to life a common soldier of the 24th Regiment of Foot. Everything we do comes straight from the pens of British officers, soldiers and contemporary sources, from the clothing and equipment we wear (mostly hand made) to the maneuvers we use to recreate the battles. Beyond the “soldiery trade” we work to bring the sights and aromas of a living camp, whether its the stars or canvas that we sleep under.
Portraying soldiers of the Major’s Company of the 24th as they would have appeared on the 1777 Northern (Saratoga) Campaign during the American Rebellion, we don’t mind getting dirty, being smelly, the rains, the sweat on the hot days or wrapping ourselves in our blankets when the air grows cold. All becomes worth it when exhausted after a quick sharp battle, we relax with a cold drink, warm food, good company and a rousing song.
That's living history.
.. A glance at our Regimental History or even a journal underlines the richness of the fighting heritage of the regiment. The South Wales Borderers (24th) distinguished themselves in many campaigns. Perhaps best remembered are the Marlborough campaigns, the American War for Independence and the Sikh Wars. Our involvement in the Zulu War was both tragic and glorious, Isandlwana .and Rorke’s Drift are likely to be remembered for a long time."
